No, FieldSurvey hasn’t been updated in the App Store but that doesn’t mean it’s been forgotten.  I’m nearly done completely re-writing the app, which should be updated to version 2.0 soon.  FieldSurvey is a labor of love, not a significant source of income.  And since I have a day job, I’ve only been able to devote about an hour a day over the past many, many months.  So, what will FieldSurvey have to show for itself?

FieldSurvey was largely rewritten in order to:

  • update the app for iOS8,
  • make on-going maintenance easier to accomplish and be completed more quickly,
  • prepare the app for localization,
  • add an item list report,
  • -and make the app easier to enhance in the future.

The 2.0 version also includes some edge case enhancements and minor bug fixes.  While it’s true that users won’t see any significant new features in the 2.0 version, once updated, work will begin on adding region monitoring (quads), snapping and adding a photo to an observation, import and export of surveys, localization (most likely Spanish and Chinese first), and possibly iCloud drive integration and an iWatch extension.

As always, I love hearing from you and welcome any input or suggestions.

FieldSurvey version 1.4.2 has now been released in Apple's iTunes App Store. It contains some database optimization, required confirmation when zero'ing out items, a one-time-only prompt asking for ratings, and some other minor bug fixes.
